Establish a Regional Vision

Establish a shared vision as the basis for coordinated planning through community input.

The landscape of growth, transportation, and open space has a big impact on our quality of life. Together they affect our cost of living, time spent commuting that could be spent with friends and family, air we breathe, how we enjoy our free time, and the neighborliness of the communities in which we live, among many other things. The Wasatch Choice for 2040 Vision considers how growth, transportation and open space can be shaped for the next few decades in ways that will improve the lives of Greater Wasatch Area residents.

The Wasatch Choice for 2040 Vision is the result of a year of careful study and the participation of thousands of residents. Beginning with the Envision Utah effort that led to the Quality Growth Strategy in 1999, residents from across the region came together to explore a variety of potential future scenarios and the benefits and shortcomings of each. Through additional workshops and public input, that vision was refined to a more specific vision for the Wasatch Front region. Through this process participants coalesced upon nine Regional Growth Principles and a Vision Map, that focuses on a few distinct strategies for growth. These also fed into the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) goals, upon which the 2015-2040 RTP is built.
